Easy Education for Filing Taxes

On Saturday, Mar. 2, Michigan State University’s Tax Law Outreach Program will be hosting a set of free workshops at DHS to help inform and educate taxpayers on a variety of tax issues. There will be two programs, and both of them will be in the DHS Media Center. One is the primary workshop, which is from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and will help educate people on how to apply for various exemptions on their tax forms, such as poverty and veteran exemptions. In addition, it will also educate on how to process actions such as appealing denials to the Michigan Tax Tribunal.

Alongside this program will be a Free Tax Clinic Q&A, where general questions about taxes can be posed to licensed attorney and law students from the MSU College of Law. This program will be from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and will coincide with the workshop when it occurs. Whether the questions are about federal, state, or local taxes, and whether it’s the new laws that have been passed or the old laws in the books, the Michigan State graduates and professionals will be able to assist in answering them.
